Enough Trace

Question:      How many Database Server trace files does it take for Oracle Support to change a light bulb?

Answer:      We need 2 more Database Server trace files to tell you.

This analogy is relevant.      When you are reading content from Oracle's trace files, whether they are System State Dumps or an AWR report, how do you know if what you're reading is relevant? After 1996, Oracle's DB engine became very powerful and if it fails, the failure will be very costly. What do you do to make sure you have a healthy relationship with the DB engine?

Enough Trace comment:      I did not know about Dr. Donald Kennedy when I blew the whistle at Oracle in 2005. When I presented my forensics I used examples like engineers mislabeling a tornado as a flying sock problem, and then getting lost for months. I learned about his analogy after Oracle fired me. His analogy applies completely to my warning.

Dr. Kennedy died on April 21, 2020, from COVID-19. May he rest in peace and we thank him for the billions that will be saved if his analogy is used when studying Oracle's trace files and other scientific research data.
